Health insurance and state differences

By admin on March 29th, 2010

Before you can talk about Health Insurance companies, one must talk about the difference in plans. There are many great Insurance companies out there: Aetna, Blue Cross, United Healthcare, Cigna, etc…. The different plans are what makes it better/worse for the consumer/subscriber. Another caveat: Whom you work for? If you work for a small “Mom and Pop operation,” your less likely to get things done as you would say: Boeing, Lookheed, GM, etc… Last but not least is: Blue Cross/Blue Shield. If your plan is located in California, you will have one or the other. If your plan is located in a state other than California, you’ll have both. For example: You live in California but work for a Boeing plant. Boeing’s main home plant is in Seattle, Washington…You’ll then have Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Washington.

Can I have health insurance coverage from two different plans?

By admin on March 28th, 2010

Yes, but you must know the rules and understand when and where to apply those rules. Most commonly known as Coordination of Benefits (COB) or Third Party Coverage. In each state and between national health insurance plans such as Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield there a specific rules which govern which contract is applied first and the maximum amount of covered benefits you can receive. Also be advised that if you have coverage under one (1) plan or company and you do not report the other, the data base systems files can now be linked to determine if COB is applicable. You should report you information to all health insurance plans to avoid denial, slow processing or misappropriation of health insurance benefits and out of pocket cost(s)/responsibility(ies). The opportunity to have COB sometimes provides added benefits and/or savings for the insured and their covered members. I usually go to http://healthinsurancedelivery advocates.org to get information and advice.

What to look for in a health insurance - Part 15

By admin on March 27th, 2010

When you are considering a health insurance plan, prepare to be confused. While a good agent can help you make the best choice you can, there are unscrupulous agents whose sole purpose is to steal. I remember reading in the local paper about a woman who had been told “This is the best insurance on the market for you.” The thing is, she didn’t read the policy. It was a great insurance, but it was a maternity insurance, and she was 70 years old.

The Role of the "health Insurance Broker"

By admin on March 26th, 2010

A health insurance broker is just like any other type of broker; this one just happens to specialize in the field of health insurance. A broker is somewhat like a matchmaker. His responsibility is to match up those seeking health insurance with health insurance companies that most closely match that person or group’s needs.

Health insurance: Whats the definition of a pre - Part 8

By admin on March 26th, 2010

A “pre-existing condition” by definition is any condition that was previously known of, diagnosed, or in the process of being diagnosed. For example. If you have no health insurance and went in to apply, they would ask you if you have any health conditions you are aware of, and they are very detailed. At this point, you must be completely honest. You cannot go in two days after being diagnosed with cancer and get health/life insurance telling them you are fine. You have a pre existing condition.

Exorbitant cost of health insurance for the self - Part 5

By admin on March 22nd, 2010

Insurance is relative. Many self-employed people shy away from it, because, unlike the employed people, you will see it come directly out of your own bank account. Relative to the protection it gives to you and your family, is it really exhorbitant?
